Passenger dies in Coquihalla crash

HOPE, B.C. — A crash that closed the Coquihalla near Hope Sunday night resulted in a fatality.

In a news release this morning, RCMP E-Division Traffic Services says the driver of a southbound vehicle lost control between Shylock and Caroline Mine Road, resulting in the vehicle going off the roadway and rolling.

There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time.

One of the passengers was ejected and died.

According to the B.C. Coroners Service, the victim was a woman in her 60s.

The driver and second passenger suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

RCMP say alcohol and drugs were not believed to have contributed to the crash.

The highway was closed from just after the crash, around 5:00 p.m., to about midnight.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Fraser Valley Traffic Services to speak to investigators.
