KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: As of 6:00 p.m. Sunday, the B.C. Wildfire Service has mapped the Allie Lake wildfire at 2,700 hectares in size.

WATCH: CFJC Today’s Kent Simmonds got a bird’s eye view of the fire today (Sunday), flying in a B.C. Wildfire Service aircraft.

EARLIER: The BC Wildfire service now estimates the Allie Lake wildfire northwest of Kamloops to be 2,020 hectares in size.

That estimate is down from Saturday’s 2,200 hectares, however, onsite fire information officer Heather Rice says that’s simply due to more accurate mapping.

“We saw increased winds late yesterday afternoon and overnight,” Rice said, “so even though the size has decreased we actually saw a bit more activity and the fire continues to move in a northeasterly direction.”

Rice says the unpredictable winds remain the most challenging factor in fighting this wildfire, and gusting winds remain in the forecast for Sunday afternoon.

130 firefighters are on site Sunday, as are 11 helicopters, and 10 pieces of heavy equipment.
