LILLOOET — Update: The Kamloops Fire Centre has confirmed the fire has grown to 300 hectares in size.

Earlier: 45 personnel, five pieces of heavy equipment and air support have been deployed today to fight an “out of control” 25-hectare wildfire located approximately 35 kilometres west of Lillooet along Anderson Lake.

The BC Wildfire Service is calling it the Xusum Creek fire and suspect it was human-caused.

Kamloops Fire Centre information officer Jody Lucius says once more accurate mapping of the blaze is completed it will likely be larger than 25 hectares adding, “There is an evacuation alert in the vicinity of that fire.”
