TRU announces honorary degree recipients

KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University has announced its 2018 honorary doctorate recipients.

They include:

  • Lori Marchand, former executive director of Western Canada Theatre.
  • Dawn Hrycun, the former chief executive officer of the John Howard Society of the Thompson Region.
  • Evelyn Voyageur of the Dzawda’enuxw First Nation and current Elder-in-Residence at North Island College on Vancouver Island.
  • Marianne Sadar, a celebrated cancer researcher.
  • Dean Nelson, a TRU distinguished alumnus who works to reduce homophobia and break down prejudicial barriers in the tourism industry.
  • Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella, a Supreme Court of Canada judge known for her expertise in human rights law and in employment equity.

The six will receive their degrees during this spring’s Convocation which runs from June 6 to June 8 at the Tournament Capital Centre.
