Fire along Shuswap Road prompts evacuation of mobile home park

KAMLOOPS — Residents of the Country View Estates mobile home park were evacuated Friday night due to a brush fire near the 3000 block of Shuswap Road. 

RCMP were notified of the fire around 9 p.m., and residents were asked to leave their homes while BC Wildfire crews worked to bring the fire under control. 

Crews remained on scene overnight to monitor the fire. 

“We have five personnel on site today, and the fire is currently estimated to be 0.4 hectares and is under control,” said Fire Information Officer Jody Lucius.

Lucius added no structures are at risk. 

According to Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Kelly Butler, all residents have since been able to return. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, the BC Wildfire Service lists the suspected cause as human.
