Fraser begins to recede in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — There is good news on the flood front for Prince George. Water level measurements at Environment Canada’s Hydrometric station at South Fort George suggests the Fraser river peaked overnight.

The water level stood just above 9.1 metres at 8:00am this morning. That is well below the flood level of 9.4 metres. The Fraser has also peaked upstream at several measuring stations including the one located in McBride.

However with hot temperatures in the forecast next week, experts suggest the Fraser through Prince George, could be on the rise again soon.

As a precautionary measure, the city has closed a portion of the Heritage River Trail. Cameron street through to Taylor Drive is the portion closed until further notice.
