Accident closes Highway 5A for several hours Wednesday night

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE —

 One man has been pronounced deceased after a collision late yesterday afternoon between a car and a motorcycle.

The accident happened on the old Merritt Highway, highway 5A, near the intersection with Campbell Creek Road.

RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that police were called out at 4:30 PM Wednesday.

She says according to witnesses, the driver of a northbound motorcycle lost control, and crossed the centre line, hitting an oncoming car.

The 63-year old man on the bike succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. 

The highway was closed for several hours while police investigated. It reopened to traffic about 10:00 PM.

The RCMP and Coroner’s Service are continuing their investigation.

 

 

EARLIER — Highway 5A was closed for several hours last night while RCMP attended an accident on highway 5A at Campbell Creek Road.

The incident happened around 6:00 PM.

In a news release, Sergeant Sascha Fesenko says a car and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.

No indication on the cause or the nature of any injuries.

The highway was reopened just after midnight.
