Victoria offers up disaster financial assistance for flood-affected communities

VICTORIA — Help is on the way to help flood-afffected communities in British Columbia.

On Monday, the provincial government announced Disaster Financial Asistance (DFA) for residents that have been impacted since the flooding began earlier this spring.

“This DFA is available in the geographic areas within the regional districts of Kootenay Boundary, Okanagan Similkameen, Central Okanagan, Columbia Shuswap and North Okanagan,” said the province in a news release. “DFA is available to eligible homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, farmers, charitible organizations and local government bodies that were unable to obtain insurance to cover disaster-related losses.”

In the B.C. Legislature in Victora Monday, Premier John Horgan said he spoke with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the weekend who assured him that “the federal government stands ready to work with the province to ensure we get through this unprecedented flood season.”
