KAMLOOPS — Concerns over rising water in Campbell Creek has prompted the City of Kamloops to activate its Emergency Operations Centre.

The city closed Barnhartvale Road at 8:00 p.m. Saturday night as water from Campbell Creek began overtopping the road. Since then, all traffic has been detoured onto Blackwell Road.

The city is monitoring the water level at Blackwell Road bridge and has several contingency plans in place should the water surpass 2017 levels.

“Our primary concern is just protecting public safety,” says Information Officer Kristen Rodrigue. “So, we’re keeping crews on site 24 hours a day to monitor the water levels on Barnhartvale Road and Blackwell Road Bridge. So, we just want to make sure the public abides by the detour we have in place and just follows any directions that are on site.”
