More residents ordered to evacuate as Guichon Creek breaches its berm

MERRITT, B.C. — More bad news for residents living along Guichon Creek. 

The Lower Nicola Indian Band issued a release stating the berm on the creek was breached at 10:30 Saturday morning. 

Evacuation orders have been issued to six residences along Fyall Road. 

The LNIB has asked these residents to check in at the Emergency Social Services reception centre at the Mezzanine level of Shules Arena while heavy equipment work to repair the breach. 

The TNRD has also issued an evacuation order for the Guichon Creek Mobile Home Park.

All residents within the mobile home park, as well as 311 Merritt Spences Bridge Hwy 8, and 308 Merritt Spences Bridge Hwy 8 are asked to shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers, and leave immediately. 

Evacuees in need of assistance should report to 1721 Coldwater Ave. in Merritt.
