Financial help available for flood affected TNRD residents

KAMLOOPS — Help is on its way for the flood affected communities within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. 

TNRD EOC Information Officer Agnese Saat says anyone impacted by recent flooding may apply to the province for Disaster Financial Assistance for non-insured losses. 

“The assistance is for people that aren’t able to get flood insurance, there is no flood insurance available for them,” Saat said. “There are some restrictions to what they can claim, it’s usually just their main living area.” 

The financial assistance is available for home owner, tenants, farmers, small business owners, charitable organizations, and local governments.

The deadline for application is August 2.

“They do have to qualify for the funding,” Saat said, “so they go through a qualification process with the province.”
