CACHE CREEK — Don’t panic if you see smoke in the Hat Creek area starting Friday.

The BC Wildfire Service will conduct a 300-hectare prescribed burn there between May 4 and May 14.

The goal is to promote ecosystem renewal, reduce accumulations of flammable material and provide important training opportunities for crews in the region.

Smoke may be visible in the area and from other nearby communities once the fire is ignited, and for several days afterward.
