Prescribed burns set for Cariboo

WILLIAMS LAKE — No need for concern if you see smoke in the Mayfield Lake area of the Cariboo today.

A series of prescribed burns, which will cover about 60 kilomeres and be located about 10 kilometres north of Alkali Lake and west of Dog Lake, will start today, weather permitting.

They will be conducted by Alkali Resource Management Ltd. and the Esketem’c First Nation, with help from the BC Wildfire Service.

Smoke will be visible from nearby communities, cautions the BC Wildfire Service.

“Such burns are only conducted when conditions are suitable and will allow for quick smoke dissipation. Fire crews will carefully monitor the fires at all times.”
