KAMLOOPS — Firefighters are on scene at the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association after an early morning fire.

Kamloops Fire Rescue was called out to the property around 6:30 this morning for a fully involved structure.

KTRA Executive Director Ashley Sudds says firefighters worked quickly to put out the blaze that destroyed an old hay shed and caused some minor damage to the association’s main office.

“I only saw smoke, I didn’t see any flames when I got there,” Sudds said. “So, the fire department had put everything out and they told me that they had rushed even faster than normal to get there because they know about our association and some of the firefighters have had their kids participate in our programs, so they wanted to get there and make sure everything was okay.”

Sudds says the hay shed was only used to store some hay and a riding lawnmower.

“I’m not sure if we would rebuild it,” she said. “We might build something smaller so we can still have a little bit of hay at that end of the property, and something to store our lawn equipment in.”

Sudds says no animals were hurt.

Fire investigators will be arriving later today to look into the cause of the fire.
