KAMLOOPS — The seven-week search for missing Alberta man Ryan Shtuka has shifted to a new location.

Shtuka was last seen in the early morning hours of February 17 after a house party on Burfield Drive at Sun Peaks.

His parents Heather and Scott and a group of dedicated volunteers have been scouring the area ever since with no success but have moved their search to an area which is about an 18 minute walk from where Ryan shoud have ended up.

Heather says the family did have information early on that there was someone that matched the description of Ryan that night coming up Fairways Drive towards the village which is where they have now turned their attention to.

“We did know that information within the first day or two and we did do a cursory check at best. Again, we were desperate to find Ryan so we had Scott and some of his crew go and look,” she says. “So now that we’ve spent so much time in that Burfield area we felt it was comfortable to move into another area. We’re not 100 per cent sure that Ryan is not where we originally thought but it does give us new hope to look in other areas.”

Heather says the family could use volunteers to help out in the search. You can learn more on that by clicking here.

She adds the family is hanging in there emotionally “moment by moment” and says they plan to stay at Sun Peaks until the snow melts.

“And we’re able to see if he’s here or not. Then that brings another step we’ll have to take.”
