KAMLOOPS — Three rope rescues in the past week at Peterson Creek has forced the City of Kamloops to take action.

The latest rescue took place near the waterfalls Monday afternoon. It involved a man and woman after they got into trouble on a rock face. It’s the same general area as the previous two rescues.

“So, we are reviewing the incidents. We will be enhancing some signage in that area reminding people to stay off that particular rock face because it can be very dangerous.” said Parks and Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putnam noting cases like these are always worrisome.

“Yeah, it’s always a concern. I mean certainly the locations of the individuals that got stuck – they weren’t anywhere near actual designated or formal trails. The concern that we have is it’s a strain on resources for Kamloops Fire Rescue or search and rescue crews to help people that put themselves in those situations.”

He adds people could help their own cause by using some “common sense.”

Putnam adds rescues like these seem to be a recent phenomenon in Kamloops.

“It seems to be a growing trend and I think it’s a result of social media. A lot of people are really getting out and enjoying the outdoors and that’s a really positive thing. Everyone is looking for their cutting edge photos but they’re also putting themselves in danger.”
