MERRITT — Nicola Valley Search and Rescue is out some valuable equipment following a break and enter over the weekend.

Merritt RCMP Cst. Tracy Dunsmore says the break-in occurred sometime Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at their fenced compound at the Merritt Airport.

“It’s a chain link fence that they had cut open and we have a trailer that has some of [the organization’s] equipment stored in there and somebody had cut the lock on the back of the trailer and accessed it,” she says. “It looks like the only thing that [the organization] missing is a length of rope. It’s about 100 metres of 13 millimetre rope and it’s probably valued at $500 to $600 to replace it.”

She admits it’s quite disappointing somebody would target the group, whose membership consists of many Merritt RCMP officers.
