KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Junior Blazers wrap up the second day of the Western Canadian Bantam AAA Championship knowing they have to win their final round-robin game, and that may not even be enough to put them in the championship final on Sunday.

The Blazers (1-2) dropped a 3-1 decision on Friday night to the Airdrie Xtreme (2-1), the Alberta champions that came into the tournament as the favourites. The Xtreme, however, lost their first game in the morning to Seafair (2-0), who defeated Kamloops on day one.

Two Airdrie goals 44 seconds apart in the first period was ultimately the difference in the loss. Kamloops’ Carter Streek notched his fourth goal of the tournament in the second to make it a 2-1 game. It remained that way until late in the third period when the Junior Blazers pulled their goalie and the Xtreme put one into the empty net to secure the victory.

The Junior Blazers, at 1-2, sit in fourth place heading the night game between Seafair and Winnipeg (1-1). They will need to win Saturday morning’s game against Saskatchewan’s West Central and hope for some help to finish in the top two and advance to Sunday afternoon’s title game.
