KAMLOOPS — It wasn’t a good start for Joe Hicketts and the Detroit Red Wings, giving up a goal 38 seconds into Tuesday night’s game. But both didn’t let that impact the outcome of the game.

The Kamloops native collected two assists, including his first NHL point in the second period, in a 5-2 Detroit win at Little Ceasars Arena.

Hicketts started the game and was on the ice for the first goal by Sidney Crosby, who finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Jake Guentzel. Hicketts had to defend the odd-man rush after Darren Helm gave up the puck at the offensive blueline. It turned the 21 year old around who had little chance on Crosby’s 27th goal of the season.

The Red Wings tied the game before the end of the first period. In the second, Hicketts recorded his first NHL point, assisting on Frans Nielsen’s 16th of the season.
