Mini-storage program to be launched for homeless population in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has partnered with the Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society to operate a mini-storage program for Kamloops’ homeless population.
It’s set to launch April 9 and will be located at 48 Victoria Street West. It will operate four hours a day, seven days a week and was developed with input from a number of partners including the Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society, the First United Church in Vancouver, the RCMP, Kamloops Fire Rescue and Bylaw Services.
In addition to the program, the space also provides the opportunity for staff and community partners to coordinate other supports and programming.
“The goal is to really provide folks with an opportunity to safely, securely store some of their belongings,” says Jen Casorso, social and community development supervisor with the City of Kamloops. “It could be important documents that they have, that they’re at risk of losing due to living on the street. But also and probably most importantly, give them a point of contact for agencies that provide services.”
