North Okanagan may have a fire bug

ARMSTRONG — A firebug may be on the loose in Armstrong.

Police and firefighters were called out again this morning to a fire in the 3600 block of Warner Avenue where a garage attached to a home was on fire.

It was about 2 o’clock when the call came in and when firefighters arrived the garage was fully involved in flames.

The garage was destroyed and there was damage to the home.

While there, they were notified of another fire just down the block where a home owner discovered his garage on fire.

He was able to put it out himself, but there was still moderate damage.

These are the second and third fires on that block of Warner in two days.

About 2:30 yesterday morning a garage door and the front vinyl siding on a home were damaged.

Police are treating it as arson.

No one was injured as a result of the three fires.

An RCMP major crime investigator and the Forensic Identification Section attended both scenes. The investigation has led police to believe the fires were incendiary in nature and are therefore being treated as Arson.

All three incidents are under investigation and in the beginning stages.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are concerned about this recent string of fires and are asking residents to report suspicious activity to police immediately.

“We are alive to the fact that these fires have occurred within a short period of time and have similar circumstances,” says RCMP Constable Kelly Brett. “We are confident that someone has information that can further these investigations and are asking anyone with information to contact us.”
