KAMLOOPS —The RCMP have confirmed one person was killed in today's crash. Four others were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sgt. Mike Pears with Central Interior Traffic Services says police determined that a west bound pickup truck with one occupant collided head-on with an east bound pickup truck with four occupants.

The driver of the west bound truck died at the scene and the four occupants of the other truck were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway1 remains closed in both directions. Check Drive BC for updates.

Earlier: At least five people were injured in a head-on crash just west of the Cherry Creek gas station on the Trans Canada Highway at around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the collision has closed the highway in both directions until at least 6 p.m. tonight.

She adds the extent of the injuries is unknown.

"Ambulance is on scene as is police. So, if you need to use the highway we ask you to use an alternate route."
