Coquihalla Highway reopens following massive crash near Hope

KAMLOOPS — Update: According to Drive BC, the Coquihalla Highway has reopened southbound between Merritt and Hope. The crash sent 29 people to hospital with seven of those in serious condition.

Earlier: The Coquihalla Highway was closed late Sunday evening after reports of a massive, chain reaction crash.

The route was closed in both directions between Merritt and Hope at about 9:00 p.m., with the crash reported in the area of Othello Road near Hope.

The collision involved at least two coach buses, two semis and several other vehicles.

BC Emergency Health Services said multiple ground and air ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with one report putting the total at 22.

The number of injuries and their severity has not been confirmed.
