VICTORIA, BC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack had a tough start to their final Canada West women’s rugby sevens tournament of 2018.

The tournament, being hosted by the University of Victoria saw the Pack play four games on the opening day.

TRU opened up with a 43-0 defeat at the hands of the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.   That was followed by a 62-0 setback to the host UVIC Vikes, 43-0  loss to the University of Alberta Pandas and finally coming out on the short end of a 48-0 decision to the University of Calgary Dinos.

“After a slow start the girls started to figure out their connections,” said head coach Derek Pue. “ We started to work harder and showed improvement in all our games.  The weather held out for us. The snow melted and we were actually able to play some running rugby and put some phases together. The girls are coming together, the chemistry is good and we are feeling positive going into tomorrow.”
