Kamloops to remain stuck in a deep freeze

KAMLOOPS — There’s no end in sight to the wintry weather in Kamloops.

Environment Canada says Saturday’s record snowfall — 15.4 centimetres of it at the Kamloops Airport, smashing the previous record of 7.6 centimetres that day back in 1951 — has been replaced with a cold front which is likely to stick around until next week.

“Once that low pressure system moved out of the province and we had this Arctic front move right through B.C., it brought this very cold air mass to the province and we see temperatures anywhere from about 10 to 15 degrees below normal for this time of year,” says Meteorologist Lisa West. 

She adds the cold air mass is settling in for the next week with daytime high temperatures staying well below zero.

“So, only highs of -5 C, -6 C, for the next few days. And the nighttime low temperatures getting into the negative teens.”
