WINNIPEG, MB — The Corryn Brown foursome are the 2018 Western Canadian University women’s curling champions.

The Brown rink, representing the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack went unbeaten through the three day event which was hosted at the Heather Curling club in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

On Sunday (Feb 11), the WolfPack downed the Haylee Jameson rink representing the University of Regina Cougars 8-2.  The game went only eight ends.

TRU was down 1-0 after the first end. But they scored two in the third, one in the fourth and sixth ends and then racked up a four in the eighth.

“That first end was key,” said Brown. “They were sitting three and we were able to reduce it to one.  Then we just curled strong the rest of the way.”

Brown said the ice was tricky for the most part this weekend.  “We didn’t curl our best to begin but we were there when it counted.”

The Brown foursome consists of Brown at skip, Erin Pincott at third, second Dezaray Hawes and lead Samantha Fisher.

This is the third Western Canadian title for Fisher, Pincott and Brown. “ The main goal this weekend was to qualify for Nationals which we did on Saturday,” Brown stated. “ This one is the cherry on top.”

They will now prepare for the USPORT Nationals to be played in Leduc, Alberta in March.
