Standoff suspect faces nine charges

KAMLOOPS — Nine charges have been laid against a man arrested after a police standoff in Coldstream.

RCMP were called to a home on Torrent Drive overnight Monday after a distraught man armed with a gun barricaded himself in a house.

The suspect had allegedly threatened and assaulted a female resident who fled before police arrived.

Nearby homes were evacuated, the neighbourhood was put on lockdown, and armed officers surrounded the home, while negotiations were held.

The man surrendered 15 hours later.

33 year old Kelly Blake Torvik has appeared in Verno provincial court charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and uttering threats, nine charges in all.

He’s being held in custody, pending a bail hearing February 15.
