Crash closes Highway 1 between Sicamous and Revelstoke

KAMLOOPS — Heavy snowfall is creating traffic chaos on Interior highways.

According to Drive BC a vehicle incident closed Highway 1 from five kilometres east of Sicamous to Revelstoke this morning causing severe traffic congestion.

A winter storm warning from Environment Canada forecasts 30 to 50 centimetres of snow by Thursday. Highway closures for avalanche control are expected west of Revelstoke, Glacier National Park, and Kicking Horse Canyon. Non-essential travel is not recommended.

For those heading north, a freezing rain warning has been issued for Highway 97 from Loon Lake to 93 Mile House and heavy snowfall is also expected throughout the Cariboo region today with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected.
