Police arrest man with loaded gun in downtown Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Mounties arrested a man with a loaded gun outside the downtown branch of the Kamloops Public Library Thursday afternoon.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says at around 2:20 p.m. the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services arrested “a suspicious male” outside the library on the corner of Victoria Street and Fifth Avenue.

She says incidental to the arrest, police located a loaded rifle with the man.

“The 39 year old will be going before a judge tomorrow. He was previously known to police and is from Kamloops.”
