KAMLOOPS — Two overdue snowmobilers have been located in the Owls Head recreational area near Sicamous.

Southeast RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says the pair were reported missing last night and notes Mounties were assisted in the search by Southeast District Air Services and area search and rescue teams.

"The Sicamous RCMP were informed that the two men were part of a larger group that had gone into an area south of Owl Head Chalet around 1 p.m. on Sunday," Moskaluk says. "Members of the group had attempted to locate the pair without success and then notified police."

He says the missing men were a 25 year old from Calgary and a 27 year old from Rocky View, Alberta. Moskaluk says both were reported to be equipped with adequate clothing, survival gear and food.

The search for the men was activated at light Monday morning and the two had to be extracted from their location by Vernon-North Okanagan Search and Rescue and another helicopter.

"This is another example of the need to be properly equipped for unforeseen emergencies while the back country," says Sgt. Murray McNeil of the Sicamous RCMP. "Snowmobilers are urged to carry the essential gear; probe, transciever and shovel with proper winter survival gear."
