Kamloops — Set up was underway today at the Coast Kamloops Hotel and Conference Centre for the 11th Annual Mayor's Gala for the Arts.
The event on Saturday night is a partnership between the Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops Symphony, Western Canada Theatre and the City of Kamloops.
WCT Executive Director Lori Marchand says the groups enjoy creating this event as a team.
"It's a great opportunity for us to collectively celebrate part of what makes our city so unique in the country," said Marchand. "The fact that it is a chance to acknowledge not only the organizations but special individuals in our community is also really wonderful."
The three awards up for grabs this Saturday are Emerging Artist, Business in Support of the Arts, and Artist of the Year for Visual Arts.
The event also serves as a fundraiser and new for this year, auction items and donations will be processed online.
"Anyone in the community can go online at mayorsgalaforthearts.ca and take a look at the auction items online," said Kamloops Symphony Executive Director Kathy Humphreys. "They can also bid on the items if they would like to do so and the bidding will continue right to the end of the event tomorrow night."
Humphreys says the auction will include the work of some Kamloops' artists among other items.
"It includes experiences like a day with the music director of the Kamloops Symphony that includes going to a concert and out for dinner supplied by Terra Restaurant, which is one of our donor's to the event, a theatre package, and an art gallery package," said Humphreys.
Close to three hundred people will fill the conference centre this Saturday night on what will be an interactive night both online and in person.
