Highway 1 set to reopen following rockslide near Spences Bridge

KAMLOOPS — Drive BC expects the highway will reopen at 6 p.m. tonight to single lane alternating traffic.

Earlier: Ministry of Transportation crews are still working to clear a rockslide that came down over the Trans Canada Highway east of Spences Bridge yesterday.

The slide completely closed off the highway, forcing travellers to take a long detour around the area.

Photos from the scene showed huge boulders came crashing down on a commercial truck.

The ministry said the driver miraculously escaped without significant physical injuries.

According to Drive BC, the road will remain closed for most of today while crews work to remove the rocks.

The next scheduled update is at 3:00 this afternoon.
