Coquihalla reopens south of Merritt

MERRITT — Update: The Coquihalla Highway is now open with a lane closure in effect. This following an accident at exit 286, Coldwater exchange. BC Hydro is on site restoring power that has been affected due to the accident.

Earlier: The Coquihalla highway has been closed south of Merritt. 

An accident forced closure of both southbound lanes before 4:00 AM.

The closure is from the Coldwater interchange south to Hope. 

The Drive B.C. website indicates (at 6:45 AM) that the highway is expected to reopen by 8:30 AM.

This closure in addition to near zero visibility fog from Dufferin and Aberdeen through the Coquihalla to Merritt. Highway 5 A is also experiencing heavy fog this morning.
