Man brandishes knife in Vernon robbery

KAMLOOPS — One suspect from a brazen daytime robbery in Vernon was arrested — while a second is stil on the loose.

Two men entered the Safeway Gas Bar on 32nd Street around 9 a.m. Tuesday, one holding what appeared to be a small hunting knife, and the other who kept a lookout.

The men were given about $230 in cash, and fled.

A quick response by police, who were provided with surveillance images of the men, led to one of the suspects being arrested.

“With the description information, an RCMP officer was able to identify one of the males and effect an arrest just shortly after the robbery had taken place,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.

The hunt for the second man continues, with police releasing photos of him to the media.

He’s described as Caucasian, between 30 and 35 years old, darker complexion, short beard or facial stubble,and wearing a plaid jacket and a dark coloured toque

The employee was not physically injured during the incident.
