New Year's Day assault sends man to hospital in Williams Lake

KAMLOOPS — A bad start to 2018 for one Williams Lake man.

Police say just before 8:30 p.m. on New Year's Day a man was assaulted outside a convenience store on Mackenzie Avenue.

"A man left the store and was getting in his vehicle when he was approached by two males, one of which demanded the keys to the man's vehicle," says North District Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "A struggle ensued between the victim and one of the suspects. During the altercation, the victim was edged by a vehicle."

She says the victim ran back into the store followed by one of the suspect's who took the victim's car keys.

"Both suspects went into the vehicle and rummaged inside, before fleeing the scene on foot."

Saunderson says the victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects are described as Aboriginal males wearing dark clothing.
