Phoenix, AZ—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team showed the effects of two weeks off as they opened up a two game exhibition series in Phoenix, Arizona.

The WolfPack fell 95-84 to the University of Montana Western Mustangs on Monday (Dec 18).  The Mustangs are a NAIA school.

“ We were a bit rusty especially on defense,” said TRU head coach Scott Clark.  “ It makes it hard to win when you give up that many points.”

The WolfPack were down 49-35 at the half.

TRU was led offensively by Derek Rhodes (4th year, forward, Antioch, CA) with 25 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Rico Nuno (4th year, forward, Half Moon Bay, CA) made his WolfPack debut and added 10 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.

Mike Rouault (3rd year, forward, Vernon, BC) added 12 points and seven assists while Tyus De Vries (1st year, guard, Chilliwack, BC)  had 14 points, two rebounds and two assists.

The WolfPack close out their exhibition series on Tuesday (Dec 19) with a 6 pm tip off of the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions.

TRU returns to Canada West league play on Friday, January 5, 2018 when they visit the University of Victoria Vikes.
