KAMLOOPS — Good news for those intent on enjoying some holiday cheer this weekend: Operation Red Nose hits the road for the first time tonight.

Kamloops is one of 11 communities in B.C. offering the best known safe ride home service and last year it also proved the province’s most popular by providing the most rides at over 1,200.

“We’re starting at 8 p.m. and running until 3 a.m. tonight and tomorrow night,” says Operation Red Nose Coordinator Katie Klassen. “So, we’re really excited to kick off the campaign and get our volunteers out there driving people and their vehicles home safely.”

She notes opening weekend is usually the slowest considering most staff parties don’t normally kick off this early but still anticipates Red nose will provide 50 to 70 safe rides home each night.

Klassen says they’ve signed up around 100 volunteers and hopes that number will double by next month.

You can volunteer by clicking here. Those needing a ride are asked to call 250-372-5110.

“The service is all be donation,” Klassen says. “It all goes to Pacfic Sport supporting our athletes and youth programs in Kamloops.”
