VICTORIA —     A sombre memorial will be held this afternoon along the waters of Victoria’s Gorge waterway, remembering 14-year-old Reena Virk, who died there 20 years ago today.

Virk was a victim of a swarming by other teens but two leaders of the group — Warren Glowatski and Kelly Ellard — assaulted Virk again after the first attack, and then held her under the water until she drowned.

Glowatski and Ellard were both convicted of second-degree murder and Ellard, who only recently admitted her role in the killing, remains in prison.

Virk’s father will speak at today’s memorial.
