VICTORIA — The latest illicit overdose death totals released by the BC Coroners Service show September had the lowest province-wide fatality total in a year.

80 people died across BC in September after overdosing on illicit drugs, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,103.

That’s the first month that has seen fewer than 100 overdose deaths since October of 2016, when there were 74 such deaths.

The Coroners Service says all health authorities in BC saw a decrease in fatalities from August to September.
