RCMP identify suspect in Tournament Inn shooting

KAMLOOPS — Updated:The Kamloops RCMP have clarified the sequence of events that occurred at the Tournament Inn in Valleyview Saturday night.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the suspect in the incident, 41-year-old Michael Shawn Boyer, threatened to shoot but did not fire his weapon at an RCMP officer.

This after the officer attempted to arrest Boyer, injuring himself during the process. Police have indicated the officer did fire his weapon.

Police have yet to locate Boyer. If anyone has any information they are asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Earlier: The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit have identified the man in connection to the altercation at the Tournament Inn Saturday.

Police are seeking Michael Shawn Boyer who is described as 6″1, 180 pounds with short, buzz cut brown hair.

The 41-year-old is a Kamloops resident.

The plea in help in finding him comes after Kamloops RCMP approached a group of suspicious people in the motel parking lot in Valleyview just after 5 p.m.

An officer atttempted to arrest one of the men suffering non-life threatening injuries from the altercation.

Dozens of police officers scoured the surrounding area into the early morning hours trying to track down the suspect who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

RCMP say any one who sees Boyer is asked to not approach him but immediately call 911.

RCMP say they expect to remain at the Tournament Inn until this afternoon as the investigation continues.
