MONTREAL — A university football game between the Concordia Stingers (4-4) and the Montreal Carabins (7-1) has been cancelled after a bout of gastroenteritis spread through the Carabins locker room.

Late Wednesday, the two football teams and the RSEQ announced the game was cancelled for public health reasons and would not be made up at a later date.

The Universite de Montreal club says in a statement that since Wednesday morning, a large number of players and coaches from the Carabins roster have been struck with a virulent strain of the virus.

The team said the spread was severe and rapid and there was too much risk involved for opponents and fans at CEPSUM stadium.
