Elephant Hill area restriction lifted

KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service has lifted the area restriction that’s been in place around the Elephant Hill fire north of Ashcroft.

The move comes after word the blaze was 100 per cent contained earlier this week. Despite the change, nearby communities can still expect to see smoke within the perimeter in the coming weeks.

The restriction was originally put in place to restrict access to the area to help protect public safety and allow crews to conduct their firefighting operations.

Even though the restriction has been rescinded, the BC Wildfire Service reminds the public that it’s still an active worksite and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing. Hunters and recreationalists are also urged to use extreme caution in the vicinity of the fire.
