KAMLOOPS — The final numbers are in and international enrolment is up almost 30 per cent at Thompson Rivers University this fall.

“There are 2,336 international students, a healthy increase from last year,” says Baihua Chadwick, associate vice-president international and CEO of global operations at TRU. “More than 400 higher than last year. Another interesting fact is we’ve seen an increase in our self identified Aboriginal students as well as international students.”

She says students from India and China accounted for the biggest increases internationally which Chadwick attributes to many factors.

“A targeted strategy. You need to know the markets and target them. Also the political climate down south and in Europe played a role along with Canada’s welcoming immigration policy.”
