KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District is taking steps to keep students out of the smoke.

The district has announced it will keep Kamloops elementary students indoors on days when the Environment Canada Air Quality Health Index is at a ‘7’ or higher.

That means students will remain inside for recesses and lunch breaks.

In a news release, the district says secondary school administrators, teachers and students won’t be subject to the policy, but are asked to abide by Health Canada guidelines for activity in poor air quality.
