KAMLOOPS — Forty-one players were kept over from the Blazers training camp for the Blue-White intra squad game.

That includes most of the 2017 bantam draft picks, some of them with familiar last names.

Josh Doan is the son of Shane Doan.

Riley Ginnell’s grandfather is former Western Hockey League coach Paddy Ginnell.

15-year old Riley was only 13 months old when his grandfather passed away in 2003, so he did’nt really get to know him.

But he’s heard some of the stories about one of the most colourful and controversial coaches in Western League history — stories that are legend.

Riley is too young to play with the Blazers this season.

He’ll go back to his minor hockey team in Calgary and work on the things he needs to get better at to make the jump to the Blazers as a 16-year old a year from now.

“I definately need to get a lot thicker — put on some weight, some muscle — improve my skating, get a lot faster.”

In talking about his grandfather Riley says “I know that he’s up there watching, he’s proud — so I just gotta keep doing what I’m doing.”
