Truck launches through ditch, onto highway in Aberdeen

KAMLOOPS — Police investigators are looking into why a pickup truck flew over a ditch and onto an Aberdeen-area highway this afternoon.

At about 2:15, the truck left the Petro Canada station at Rogers Way and Highway 5A by plowing through a ditch, hitting some trees and then launching onto the travel lanes of the highway.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of Kamloops RCMP says the driver has been taken to Royal Inland Hospital with a head injury, and it’s unclear what caused him to take that route.

“We’re considering both possibilities: that is was a medical emergency that caused him to accelerate out of the gas station, or the other possibility is that he was impaired. So we’re looking into both of them,” said Shelkie.
