KAMLOOPS — A replacement bridge for Old Highway 5 in Heffley Creek is on its way.

City of Kamloops Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says construction should begin shortly.

A culvert beneath the road was heavily damaged by spring flooding.

Crundwell says there are a couple of different funding sources that could be considered for the $1.4-million project.

“We’re working with the province under their Disaster Financial Assistance program,” said Crundwell. “We have been approved for some funding on that, but we are still working through the details. We did have some capital improvements planned there in the coming years — not this quick, but the city would have been spending some to improve that culvert anyway.”

Crundwell adds the project should be finished by the winter.
