Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival cancelled due to city smoke

KAMLOOPS — Smoke has put out the dragon.

Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival has been cancelled due to the thick smoke blanketing the city.

The festival was scheduled to take place Saturday, August 12th.

Dana Gibeault, Co-Organizer for the Festival, says organizers decided to pull the plug on Thursday when the cities Air Quality Health Index reached a staggering 47.

“It was a hard decision to make, we don’t take it lightly but ultimately it comes down to the health of the paddlers that are coming and also for all of our volunteers,” said Gibeault.
