Clinton evacuated as Elephant Hill fire continues to grow

UPDATE:  The Cariboo Regional District has issued an expanded evacuation order for the Kluskus, Blackwater and Clisbako area which is about 100 kilometres west of Quesnel. 


CLINTON, B.C. — Evacuation orders were issued late Saturday evening for the Village of Clinton, as well as a number of properties north and south of the village, as the Elephant Hill wildfire continues to move closer to the community.

The order took effect at 8:00pm. Evacuees are directed to come to Kamloops. Around 1,000 evacuees from Clinton and the surrounding area are expected to report to the Sandman Centre tonight.

The Cariboo Regional District expanded an evacuation order for residents of the Clisbako area, which is about 100 kilometres west of Quesnel. Residents of that area were being evacuated to Quesnel, via Baezaeko Road to Nazko Road.

All evacuees are required to register with the Red Cross, and can do so by calling 1-800-863-6582.
