City still to receive $3.8 million annually from KGHM if Ajax approved

KAMLOOPS — While city council has made it clear where they stand on Ajax with a resounding ‘no,’ the community benefit agreement between the KGHM and the city is still in play if the proposed mine goes ahead.

The city’s director of public works Jen Fretz confirmed council’s decision has no bearing on whether Kamloops will receive $3.8 million annually it’s been promised from the company if the project becomes operational.

“That is completely separate from the process going on with respect to approval of the project and application, and that will be going forward implemented should the project be receiving approval,” said Fretz.
